5th Day - Friday - Westcoast - Kintyre the second

Today too the sky over Edinburgh does not look very promising, grey and cloudy - moistly. For the start breakfast. Then upstairs to my room to fetch the new camera and then a new start. Dalkeith Road direction south to the City Bypass and from there the M8 towards Glasgow. On the way to Glasgow the rain stopped. Then Loch Lomond on the right driving north. This time I stopped at a parking area at the Loch Lomond (it had to be - to much tea and juice). And of course I took some picture - oh yes, the top of the hills were free from the clouds and there was snow on the tops. The snow line had gone down to less than 600 m - just beautiful. Now I drove on to Tarbert, here, like yesterday too, I turned left towards Loch Long. Then across through the mountains to Loch Fyne. Even in Scotland are road works so there was a traffic light in the middle of nowhere - the chance for me to take some photos. I had taken some pictures at my "place of accident" before.

Then Loch Fyne, actually this one should be named Loch Long. You drive along the Loch for an eternity. But there are some small towns at Loch Fyne, for example Inveraray. A quite cute town but I don't want to life here - far too far away from everything. Then the road turned inland (there where Kintyre begins) and at the other side I was at the Atlantic ocean - blue and wonderful in the sun. The sun came out while I drove along at Loch Fyne. Between the ocean and green grassland lays Campbeltown and from there I drove to Mull of Kintyre - yes, exactly the Mull of Kintyre Paul McCartney sings from.

For the first here green grassland too. Then I had to past a farm gate. It was closed what meant I had to get out of the car - open the gate - drive through - get out of the car again and close the gate. Lastly you do not want to make the farmer angry. Attention! From now on there might be sheep on the road (but were none). The higher I climbed the more black heather was there. I assume there must have been a fire last summer, usually the heather looks different. also the area was to big for a disease. Alleged there is a lighthouse here (Mull of Kintyre Lighthouse). If there is one here I have not seen it. There was a track, but not for cars. Steep it went down the cliff (see photos) and I did not want to do that because my hip was still very sore. Finally I would had to climb up the hill again. So I let the wind blow at me and then drove back. On my way back I took some pictures so you can have an impression how it looks like at Mull of Kintyre. Mull is Scottish and mean headland. Also on the way back I refueled in Campbeltown. The history of Campbeltown you can read here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campbeltown.

At the end of Loch Fyne (or the begin depending on the direction you are coming from) I had a feudal supper. On the way down to Campbeltown I spotted a restaurant where they also sold fish. Fish fresh from the Atlantic Ocean! I ate for the first time in my life langoustes - you can describe them as a mini-lobster and you eat them exactly the same way. I cracked even the tiny claws. The langouste-meat is real tasty it is only a bit hard to get to it. Then I had sole filet with gravy made with leeks and mushrooms. It takes a little getting used to but then it tasted very good. I really would have like to buy some fish but without a fridge and the possibility to cook it impossible. Okay, onward, through the mountains, along site of Loch Lomond, across through Glasgow and then the M8. When I finally arrived in Edinburgh it started to get dark. Later I was told there had been rain the entire day in Edinburgh - the sun in Kintyre was my reward for the heavy fall yesterday.

Here now the photos:
